Hungerford Town Council with Commemorative Convoys present

D-Day 80th Anniversary Commemorative Weekend

D-Day 80th Anniversary Convoy 2024
- A Salute to The Fallen -

A two-day immersive event on 29th / 30th June 2024 in Hungerford, West Berkshire to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

With concurrent activities to commemorate, inform and celebrate the vital contribution that the area made in the build-up to, and launch of the largest invasion in history and the subsequent turning point in WWII.

We are currently planning full programme of events throughout the weekend - full details will be made available closer to the event.

Part of the commemorative programme will feature a convoy of approximately 80 classic military vehicles arrive in the town and drive through the high street to the Triangle Field show site.

The convoy will depart Basingstoke at 10am on 29th June and will drive through Basingstoke to Kingsclere, and onto Greenham Common where the convoy wil pause for a small stop.

After departing Greenham Common, the convoy will drive though the centre of Newbury and into the A4 towards Hungerford, West Berkshire. The convoy will drive though the High Street which will be decorated with union flags and onto the show site at Triangle Field.

Hungerford’s’ weekend of commemoration will see a full programme of activities and events including parades; display; history talks and the unveiling of a D-Day commemorative stone on Hungerford Common.

Our sincere thanks to Steve Gough and members of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch for providing essential motorcycle escort support.

Join us for this historic event – unique to West Berkshire and the surrounding areas - to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The event is raising funds for the Royal British Legion Riders Branch Poppy Appeal and local charities.

Commemorative Convoys

Following the success of a military vehicle convoy in 2017; a special 75th D-Day Anniversary convoy in 2019, and Armed Forces Day convoys in 2022 and 2023, with renewed enthusiasm the event team have since been focusing on planning for the 2024 event.

Our volunteers work closely with the Royal British Legion Riders Branch and all the relevant authorities, communities and organisations that kindly help us to present these events.

We thank our Sponsors for both financial and practical support.

Above all we thank the Veterans that support us and our Patron Air Commodore Peter J Grinsted OBE for his continuing commitment.
