This is a two-day immersive event with concurrent activities organised with Hungerford Town Council to commemorate, inform and celebrate the vital contribution that the area made in the build-up to, and launch of the largest invasion in history and the subsequent turning point in WW2.
The objectives are to Salute the Fallen, to raise money for charities and to welcome the community and visitors to this unique historic occasion.
Town centre focused activities and Historical presentations
Military wives’ choir and street entertainers
High Street route lining and static classic / military vehicles
RBL Armed Force Day Parade
Official D-Day commemorative convoy of classic military vehicles drives through the town to the Triangle Field. (12.15 pm approx)
Military encampment set up on Triangle field with static vehicles and additional displays
Living History re-enactors
Veterans parade with band from corn exchange to common to unveil a commemorative / stone and information plaque. Wreath laying (1800 hrs)
As a “Salute to The Fallen” there will be a flypast of commemoration stone *weather permitting
Triangle Field military encampment focused with additional town centre activities
Living History re-enactors, static and other displays
Age-appropriate classic vehicles
Special flypasts – weather and tasking permitting
